MB7UBM - APRS Digipeater & iGate

APRS Digipeater & iGate - MB7UBM (Black Mountains)

Continuing to grow in the hobby and actioning a plan started after a recent trip around France, detailed below.

There is a space in the APRS network for an iGate in my area.  Hopefully this will be successful and of use to amateurs locally and those on the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons or whilst activating those and other local SOTA & HeMA summits.

I first got interested in APRS after a talk at Hereford Amateur Radio Society by Matt G8XYJ early in 2017.  I was a freshly licensed as M6KSX and studying through the licenses to the full license.

Now with more time I am almost there.

After taking Matts advise I used Microsat APRS equipment.  They are reasonably priced (exchange rate depending), well built and easy to use and set up.

I have gone for the WX3in1 Mini and a 2m slim-jim, coupled with an 8W BaoFeng I have in a drawer.  Trying to keep set-up costs to a minimum.

As my shack moneybox acquires more funds I will look at replacing the radio and antenna.

Once live I will look to put together a Weather Station to add to the APRS packets and link it to Weather Underground.  This has become my next project as my old weather station has given up and this gives me the opportunity to link my two hobbies.
